What Is a Marijuana Grow House

A grow house is typically a single-family detached home that is used to illegally grow marijuana--completely indoors. Even in states such as Colorado where growing marijuana is legal, it may be illegal to grow marijuana outdoors.   Small scale growers are often choosing to grow in homes due to the high cost of a commercial space or inability to obtain a producer license.

 Grow House Indicators (Meth Lab Clean-up)

- Residents that are home for only a few hours and then leave again
- Entry to the house is often made through the garage, rear or side entrances
- Windows are boarded or covered up preventing light from filtering in and concealing indoor activities
- Bright Light may be seen escaping from the sides of the windows and the heat inside may cause a layer of condensation on the inside of the windows
- Strange skunk-like odor emitting from the house
- Little or no outdoor maintenance is performed (grass, snow not cared for) - - In winter snow may melt from roof very quickly due to temperature inside  - Hydro meters are tampered with or evidence of digging around exterior box  

Problems

• Agricultural products are not meant to be grown in enclosed living spaces
• Illegal growers do not care about the house they are using for the operation
• Large amounts of debris are left behind
• Unsafe electrical wiring remains
• Re-routed water lines
• Interior walls removed or compromised during installation of venting and pipes
• Floor coverings, subfloors, walls, studs ruined by water damage
• Extensive mold growth can occur as a result of water, heat, and high humidity
• Staple and nail holes are found in walls and floors
